Book your seat in the Landcrusier and get ready for a Safari Adventure at Camp Independence!

At Camp Independence, Cub Scouts and their parents will stay in canvas wall tents on platforms with cots and eat in our full-service dining hall.  Camp Independence provides a safe and fun way to experience the great outdoors, even if your Scout - or you - have never gone camping before.  Create memories that will last a lifetime!

Multiple camp sessions are offered throughout the summer. We're sure to have an opportunity that fits your family's schedule perfectly. Even if your den or pack is not coming to camp or you can't come at the same time, you are still welcome to join us at Camp Independence. Join us for your own Independence adventure!

Rookie Camp

Rookie Camp is a one-night Camp Independence experience which is perfect for younger Scouts and others who have never been to summer camp before.

Participants will have the opportunity to tour Camp Independence, meet the camp staff, participate in a few favorite camp activities like BB shooting and archery, have a meal in the camp dining hall, and enjoy a classic Camp Independence campfire!

Cub Scout Resident Camp

Aimed at Wolves and Bears, Cub Scout Resident Camp is a three-night camp focused on Wolf and Bear advancement along with fun, age-appropriate activities. During their time in camp, Cub Scouts will have the opportunity to shoot BB guns and archery, go swimming and boating. learn about nature and our country, go fishing, and do much, much more! 

As Scouts participate in camp programs, they will work on various Wolf and Bear Adventure loop requirements.

Webelos Resident Camp

These three or four-night camping experiences are geared toward Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts. The program takes a step up from the Cub Scout Resident Camp program. Webelos Scouts will have the opportunity to kayak, shoot pellet guns, ride BMX bikes, and climb Camp Independence's vertical wall.  

Four-night Webelos Resident Camp is a great program to help get Webelos ready for Scouts BSA resident camp in a few years and offers a few extra, four-night only program opportunities.

As Scouts participate in camp programs, they will work on various Webelos and Arrow of Light Adventure pin requirements.

Pack Camp

Perfect for families with multiple Scouts, Pack Camp provides a program for all age groups in the pack at the same time. Age groups will be divided up to receive age-specific programs and activities while at camp. All sessions include an option for Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts to come a day early for extra Webelos specific programs such as a hike to one of Heritage Reservation's two Scouts BSA resident camps - Camp Liberty or Camp Freedom.

Registration Timeline

Now until February 15, 2021
Unit “Save a Space” Deposit - $100/Pack
  • Reserve space with a flat $100 pack deposit and estimated number of youth and adult campers.
  • Deposits are non-refundable. Deposit will be applied to overall fees due and cannot be “rolled” to future years.
February 16, 2021
  • Full registraion opens - units can begin confirming attendees, adding attendee information, and begin making payment.
  • Previously paid unit deposits will show as an "unallocated credit" that can be applied to attendees.
By April 1, 2021
Pay in full by April 1 to receive lowest (Early Bird) camp prices.
By June 1, 2021
Pay in full by June 1 to receive regular prices
June 2, 2021 or after
Pay in full June 2 or after and receive the highest (Late) camp prices.
Up to two weeks before session start
  • Add registrants and edit registrations
  • Registration locks two weeks prior to session start to addtiional changes.
  • If your unit needs to adjust attendees within two weeks, you must contact the LHC Camping Department.

Discounts and Incentives

  • Updated for 2021 - Sibling Discount - $30 off second and subsequent youth Scout camp fees. (Applies across different LHC resident camps - Scouts BSA, Cub, Webelos sessions. Discount applied to registration of equal or lesser value.)

  • Low Rate Lock-In - Webelos cross-overs, Scouts joining after March 1, and campership recipients are locked into the lowest rate for camp.

  • Updated for 2021 - Free Adults - Earn free adult attendees based on the number of Scouts who attend the same camp session:
    • 8-15 Scouts = 1 Free Adult
    • 16-23 Scouts = 2 Free Adults
    • 24-31 Scouts = 3 Free Adults
    • 32-39 Scouts = 4 Free Adults
    • 40-47 Scouts = 5 Free Adults
    • Additional Free adult at 48, 56, 64 Scouts, etc
  • Free Den Chief - Packs receive one free Den Chief per registration. Den Chief's are youth Scouts, BSA or Venturing members attending to assist adults with youth attendees.
  • Second Session Discount - 25% discount off camp fees for a second session. Applies to youth or adult camp fees at a Laurel Highlands Council resident Camp. (Day Camp, NYLT, and National High Adventure Base participation does not quality).
  • Camp Staff Referral - Refer a new camp staff member who gets hired and works all summer to receive $100 in Camp Trading Post credit.
  • Free Week for CITs - Counselors in Training (CITs) will receive a free week of summer camp for completing the full CIT program (4-week minimum). Fees must be paid in advance and will be refunded upon completion. CITs are new staff members with a minimum age of 14.  Learn more at https://www.lhcscouting.org/campstaff
  • Camperships - Financial assistance is available for Laurel Highlands Council Scouts with financial need to attend an LHC summer resident camp program. Applications due March 1.
  • Camp Keepsake - All campers will receive a camp specific keepsake.

  • Every Scout and adult who attend camp will receive a commemorative Camp Independence gift.

Recognition Necklaces

Every Cub Scout coming through our gate receives a Camp Independence recognition lanyard. As they prepare for their Space Race, they'll receive color-coded beads for their achievements. From passing a swimmer’s test to catching a fish, Cubs can earn beads for LOTS of things - providing immediate recognition for doing their best.
