COVID-19 Update

Sunday, March 15, 2020

Pittsburgh, PA -- Dear Scouting Families, On the evening of Sunday, March 15, the council cabinet had a conference call to discuss the latest information related to the COVID-19 virus and the communities we serve. This call was prompted by County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Health Director Dr. Debra Bogen, releasing a video statement to the community regarding concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic in this region. In it, they called upon non-essential businesses in Allegheny County to close or implement alternative work strategies for at least 14 days (beginning tomorrow) to limit the spread of the virus through personal contact and surfaces.

The video can be found at: https://youtu.be/ONSxcY0kiqw. The full release can be found at: http://j.mp/2xHtVrl.

To do our part to help prevent the spreading of this virus, we will be closing Flag Plaza and the Pittsburgh Scout Shop beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 16, and schedule to reopen, Monday, March 30. Our professional staff will continue to work and be available for our Scouting public via phone/video conferencing and/or email.

The Scout Shop at the Galleria Mall and Cumberland Office will continue to operate their regular scheduled hours. We will continue to monitor the recommendations from each community and communicate any changes in operations if necessary, for those locations. As we approach March 30, if we are not safe to resume regular business, we will communicate that to everyone in a timely manner.

Please share this information with other volunteers and do your very best to keep yourselves safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you.
